ABOUT CTA STAFF

Geert van der Veen, M.S.W., R.S.W., Natasha Kis-Sines, M.S.W., R.S.W.

Between them, Natasha and Geert have experience working with adolescents, families, individuals, couples and groups in 'Outpatient' counselling, School settings, Residential contexts, and Private Practice, using a variety of collaborative counselling models, such as Narrative, Solution focused, Brief Therapy, and Single Session counselling approaches.

Geert first began practicing and presenting on Narrative therapy in 1993. He has worked for several Toronto social services agencies, has supervised students from both the University of Toronto's Faculty of Social Work, and from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, has been a clinical supervisor, and has been published in the professional literature.

Natasha brings over 10 years of combined experience to CTA, working as a teacher in her native Serbia, and as a psychotherapist in Toronto. In addition, Natasha has extensive Brief Therapy experience working with families, parents and adolescents.

Teaching Experience

Natasha and Geert are active members of the Narrative therapy community in Toronto, and have presented and taught Narrative practices in a number of settings, ranging from the University of Toronto and Ryerson University, to the Toronto District School Board and several Toronto social services agencies.

Geert and Natasha are currently writing several professional articles, have developed the Narrative Solutions Wheel ©, the RefCard © - and other clinical tools designed to facilitate learning and working with Narrative ideas, and are in the process of developing more clinical training tools and workshops.

In addition to enjoying their Training and Private Practice work, Natasha and Geert both work for Oolagen Community Services, a respected social services agency in downtown Toronto.

Derek Stockley is a Clinical Supervisor and family therapist working at a Toronto social services agency which helps people minimize the influence of substance misuse and addictions on their lives.

Derek adopts a Postmodern stance in his work, and expresses this interest as a therapist and, supervisor, and through his teaching as a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Guelph.

Derek is an invaluable addition to CTA, and will regularly be presenting workshops pursuant to his interests.

Sessional Workshop Facilitators / Seminar Leaders

Susan Allen, B.S.W., has worked extensively with youth and families in various settings (counselling, residential, day treatment) for over 20 years. She has used Narrative Therapy ideas in her work for over 15 years and has found that this approach can lead to hope, new possibilities, and exciting developments with even the toughest of problems.
